Bloodwork

Bloodwork is an important tool used to determine the state of your pet’s health. It can reveal a wide range of illnesses or deficiencies, confirm a suspected diagnosis, and more. Crosspointe Animal Hospital offers bloodwork services to pet owners in Fairfax, Clifton, and Lorton so you can get answers when your pet is unwell.

Why Do Pets Need Bloodwork?

Our doctors don't order bloodwork blindly. They are all highly qualified veterinarians who understand that sometimes the answers to your pet health concerns are in the blood. This means that these tests are sometimes necessary to safeguard the health of your pet.

There are many conditions that can be revealed by simple blood tests, including dehydration, anemia, polycythemia, and even signs of infection can be revealed by high white blood cell counts in the blood.

We offer in-house bloodwork. This means that you do not have to wait days for the results to arrive so you can begin treatment for your pet’s needs. In fact, most of the bloodwork we do in-house delivers same day results allowing you to begin treatment right away.

We do outsource some routine bloodwork, when your pet isn’t showing signs of being ill, to outside labs. Even then, the results are usually returned within a couple of days so you have peace of mind that all is well with your pet.

Does Bloodwork Hurt Pets?

Blood tests are commonly used for diagnostics, in preparation of surgeries, and to determine the well-being of household pets. While many people worry about hurting their pets when drawing blood, the truth is that it doesn’t hurt your pets any more than it hurts you when you have blood drawn.

In fact, for most pets, having their blood drawn hurts even less. They do not experience pain in quite the same way their human companions experience pain.  Crosspointe Animal Hospital is proud to have a group of gentle veterinarians who are caring and patient with all the pets in their care. It is highly unlikely that any pets will experience any kind of lasting trauma from their bloodwork experience.

A sick pet can be traumatic for pet owners just as it can be confusing and frightening for pets. We work hard to put your fears to rest and restore your pet’s good health as quickly as possible. Contact Crosspointe Animal Hospital if you’re a pet owner in Fairfax, Clifton, or Lorton to learn more about our in-house lab and bloodwork services as well as the many other treatments we offer area pet owners.
